Quickie Movie Reviews: Iron Man 2 and Spliced (No Spoilers)

It's an hour plus drive to a movie theatre in Vermont and even then the screens are tiny, and they only serve Pepsi (barf, perhaps a holdover from John Sculley days?). Not that I don't love the Majestic Cinema (their management is awesome to me). But nothing in Vermont comes close to the Loews theatres at the Metreon.
Being a shut-in at home, I was hesitant to make the 5 block walk down Minna to General Beads. So instead I walked across the street to the Metreon (a sad, vacant space these days) to hit the theatre.
Iron Man 2 was OK. Pretty predictable, I think the trailers showed too much. Favreau did do a good job overall. Mickey Rourke has a carreer again (although he's not the pretty "9 1/2 Weeks" version. I did enjoy it. I wish I'd had the stones to wait for the 11:20 pm IMAX showing, but likelihood of many people too high.
On Sunday I saw Splice. I had low hopes going in, even though it was something I really wanted to see. I blame both The Book of Eli and Legion for that, poor films with good press. I'm a huge Sarah Polley fan and that was a big part of the draw. I was quite (pleasantly) surprised how creeped out the last half of the film as. Oh, and the screen and theatre were huge. Even compared to the Iron Man theatre. Man, that was like the old days. Awesome. This was one of the rare films where I didn't feel cheesed that Ontario (my birth province, and long time taxer) paid in part for the film).
I'd still like to see Killers while I'm here (I'm hoping someone shoots Kutcher), but unless I pull a hermit on Monday night, don't think I'll have time. It isn't the kind of movie that you miss out on a small screen, so a wait for an HD rental on iTunes wouldn't be a 'killer' (see what I did there? That's why I write for a living, bitch. Of course without one of ur two talented editors you'll see lousy punctuation and grammar, but it's free so too bad).
