LaunchBar and ScreenCasts Online

I have to admit, I know there is a small war between LaunchBar and QuickSilver users.

I've always been a LaunchBar user, for 10 years now. That's a long time, going back to their product on the NeXT. The thing is, I've always used it almost exclusively for launching applications. Current version is LaunchBar 5.

Recently, ScreenCasts Online has had two shows on using LaunchBar more completely, and I have to say I'm stunned at what it's capable of. Launching of course, searching, calculator, running Applescripts, navigating the Finder, navigating AddressBook. Loads more. Can't wait to watch the second episode when it comes out this week.

LaunchBar is definitely on of my top 10 apps, and one of the first that gets installed on a new machine. Ironically, my wife hates it. To each their own.

Speaking of ScreenCasts online. This is one of the few shows that got me watching video Podcasts. The production values are excellent. And it covers loads of apps. Some are interesting, some aren't. This is actually useful, because Don's reviews and demos have both encouraged me to buy some applications (for example, 1Password) and discouraged purchasing others that I didn't feel would fill my needs.

I also learned a bunch about the new iMovie from the series. Heck, I already had that, just didn't know what I was doing with it. Bonus.

He does a free show once a month that you can see, to check and see if it's to your liking. I'm about 70% liking the episodes. But well worth the subscription.

And no, neither LaunchBar or ScreenCast Online asked me to pimp them. I just felt like it.

Update: Watched Part 2 of the ScreenCast Online LaunchBar episode tonight. Much more in depth, but there could easily be a 3rd. Nice job Don!
